What’s Happening in Maths

We are learning the order of the months of the year and days of the week. We are also working on place value and recognizing that the number 35 is made up of 3 tens and 5 ones, as well as reviewing word problems that require addition, subtraction or comparing amounts. As always, we are playing many games in class in order to practice and revisit other skills such as money, clock, number bonds and mental math.

Should you wish to practice any math at home, we suggest practicing number bonds to 10 (quick mental addition AND subtraction to 10) and solving 2-3 step number problems. In class, children are encouraged to draw the problem and then write the number sentence (equation) before solving the problem. Problems can be given verbally or read to your child as reading is not the priority of this exercise.
