Healthy Choices – Hands, Teeth, Water and Sleep

The children are finishing up our unit on Healthy Choices.  For the last couple of weeks, children have been learning about washing hands, brushing teeth, drinking water and sleep.  Here are some of things that they have been learning:



The students have learned the importance of washing hands before eating, after going to the toilet, after playing outside and playing with pets.  They know that the bubbles are what kill the germs on their hands and that they must wash their hands for about 15 seconds.  Here are a couple of students demonstrating their knowledge.

We had the pleasure of having a guest dentist, Dr. Abbas, come in to teach the children about brushing teeth.  He showed the children how to brush their teeth in circles for the best results.  The students need to be brushing their teeth in the morning and night.


In order for our brains and bodies to work well, we need to make sure that we are drinking water.  The students need to make sure that they bring water bottles to school everyday.  Water is the best – please do not send juice in their water bottle.



First grade students need about 10 hours of sleep a night.  For most children that means getting to sleep by around 7pm every night.  If your child is regularly staying up beyond this time, he/she may be lacking important sleep time.  Children that are well rested, come to school ready to learn.
