First grade has been learning how to cooperate during their unit of “How the World Works.” They are learning to use scientific principles to understand how animal characteristics help them survive in their environment. In the first part of the unit students learn about animal groups and the characteristics associated with them. Then students research a habitat and how an animal’s characteristics help them survive in their environment.
The students are completing the second part of the unit. Each classroom is exploring a specific habitat. Students started by identifying what they know about the habitat and what they want to know. From their questions, they formed learning groups to research the answers. Using the library’s research model with the help of Ms. Choan, they have been using features of nonfiction books, such as table of contents and indexes, to find information.
The students, who are now experts, would now like to invite you to watch them present their research. Come and celebrate your child’s accomplishment on March 1st. Below are the timings for each class:
Ashleigh Redman (1R) – 12:20 – 1:00
Tabitha Davies (1D) – 1:00 – 1:40
Sapna Kanabar (1K) – 1:00 – 1:40
Jessica Albrent (1A) – 1:00 – 1:40
